A New Spring In Our Step...

Psalm 1:3 - That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.

The spring equinox is on Thursday, March 19. I can already feel the heavy veil of winter lifting. While the weather here in Dallas is relatively mild during the coldest months of the year, the constant gray skies can sometimes produce the winter blues. I’m welcoming the sunny days with enthusiasm. It’s also a season of hope and good cheer. A time of renewal.

When the seasons change it’s always a great time for reflection. What has been going well? What needs to change? I don’t know about you, but often I have a hard time letting go of ideologies or patterns that no longer serve me. When I take the time to reflect and pray, it becomes clear to me what actions I need to take to continue to grow and learn.

Something else that marks this season is spring cleaning! It’s about opening up all the windows and letting the light shine in. Dusting off shelves, organizing that closet or tackling the project you’d been avoiding. I always think this is the perfect time to bring your jewelry in for a spring cleaning. It’s something most fine jewelry owners overlook. When you bring your pieces in for a professional cleaning your jeweler will take the time to check all the settings to make sure nothing is loose. When your piece is returned shined, polished and steamed it’s so much fun as it feels like you were just gifted something brand new! We often don’t realize how dirty things can get from hand lotions and daily wear and tear.

It’s also an excellent time to pilfer through your jewelry box. What’s been sitting there for the past year unused? Is it time to gift it to someone else that you know would enjoy the motif? Or is it time for a redesign? Custom jewelry design work often costs a lot less than what people imagine and it’s always a sound investment. Instead of having your piece tucked away in a jewelry box you can give it new life by using the stones and the metal to create something entirely new!

What are your spring traditions? Do you have a favorite walk you go on? Is it marked by a group outing or event? Consider adding the spring cleaning of your jewelry box to your traditions. It’s a small action you can take each year to welcome in this beautiful time of year.
